Flagler Sportfishing Club

I never fished for sheepshead in my life. In fact I have no interest in Sheepshead at all since it’s usually to cold for me. That all changed when I received an invitation from a good friend and member to fish our January Sheepshead tournament. After almost 4 months of house rebuilding I was chomping at the bit to get back on the water. Now I had a real problem? How do you catch sheepshead? I had not a clue, so I turned to some of our club experts. Captain Jimmy Brittian gave me some guidance in tying a sheepshead rig and calls to a couple of other members got me some spots and the baits. Tournament day dawned cold, and a nice day turned a little colder as the cloud rolled in late morning, water temps around 50 degrees made the fishing tough so I was pretty happy when 2PM rolled around and we headed to the weigh in. There we met some 35 to 40 other hardy souls with not a lot of fish but a lot of joking and laughter as we compared how many layers of clothes we had on. It turned into a really fun tournament with a lot of participation.read more...

All of that brings me to what this club is all about. Learning to be better anglers, developing friendships, and having fun. I think we lose sight of that in the whirlwind world we live in today but there are times we must step back smell the roses and go fishing. Please make sure you take advantage of everything this club has to offer and I look forward to seeing you all on the water. Oh yes, I did catch a sheepshead.
Tight Lines!

About

Welcome to the Flagler Sportfishing Club website. We are an extremely active club with around 200 family's (over 400 members). Our meeting place has changed recently to the VFW in Palm Coast. We meet once a month and have a lot of events and tournaments throughout the year. Some of our tournaments pay cash awards of up to 4,000.00 dollars while others are smaller but just as much fun! Check out the 2017 schedule by clicking the Menu link on the upper right and selecting Schedule.

Our club meetings focus on educating our members on local fishing techniques as well as staying informed on local laws and regulations. Most meetings are attended by a speaker who is a professional fishing guide in our local area. If you are considering joining our club, stop by on the first Wednesday of any month (except December). See more info under the membership link above.

Our success is a direct result of our member participation, as well as our great sponsors. We encourage each and every member to come to our meetings, and participate in our tournaments. And don't forget, when your shopping in the area to visit our sponsors and thank them for their support..
